1963 4 door GT
This is a new car we have found that will be restored to its original state. We are looking for any parts that you may be able to help us with. Its one of the 100 cars bought into Australia by Ford in September 1963. We think that there are only about 4 restored out of 8 of these cars left in Australia. Hover over images for details.

..................................................................................................

Its Story
The car was found in the coastal area S.A. near Mount Gambier. If you recognize this car or can help in locating missing items we would be very appreciative. Sold new in Victoria we still have original number plates. It was sold at some stage from a car yard in Footscray, Melbourne. Bill Wilcox from Buckley St. Can you help? Contact us

Restoration has started (Jan '07). Restoration pictures can be found in the gallery here. Rust is the main problem so many new panels will be used. In the mean time we will begin stripping to a bare shell in prepartation for media blasting. Regular updates can be seen here.

What's different about a 63 GT?
1963 GT's were a little different in specifications to the later more common 65 and 66. While they did carry some of the specs over to the 64 model. These are unique in a couple of ways.

Early GT's '63 and '64 never had the rear radius rods fitted to the diff like the '65 or 'flow through' as they known to be called.

1963 and '64 GT's were also never fitted with chrome quarter vent window surrounds. You will find they were only paint on the front and the rear. See images on the right.

And: they just look like a 1964 GT from the outside and 63's still retained the chrome moldings along the side. Its not until you look inside the car that you see the main differences. The dash is very distinctive in a 1963 car which were fitted with a 'bar' type speedo. They also had a rev counter that was mounted to the steering column and two gauges in the console.

One more thing, the front calipers were also different, locating on the front of the disk rotor unlike other GT's which had them on the rear of the disk.

If you can help with parts, please
contact us.
